Technique: Oil Pastels

This is from Part 2, but I intended to do a quick write up. I tried an experiment with Oil Pastels quite early on in part 2, when I was trying a range of media for the first time. At that point I made the observation that this is likely to be a medium for avoiding detail.

From my early experimentation it seemed clear that there must be a way to use these and get better results. Rather than simply experiment until I go it right I decided it was time for some research. The following links are some of the more interesting ones that I found:

  • Oil Pastels Artists – Plenty of information for starting out in oil pastels. Choice of pastels and technique to try.
  • Oil Pastels Techniques – Another beginners site with information to get started.
  • Reeves – Brand site, but some useful information.

This research gave me enough information to be sufficiently confident to try again.
